Superstorm Sandy Task Force

On Monday, October 29, 2012, Superstorm Sandy made landfall in Monmouth County and wrought destruction the likes of which had never been seen before, at least in living memory. The 14-foot surge of water that accompanied the storm leveled everything in its path, including homes, businesses and, in the case of the Borough of Sea Bright, a police department too. The unprecedented destruction caused by Superstorm Sandy did not stop with buildings and possessions; it created heartache and pain in the lives of countless Monmouth County citizens, many of whom lost everything and are still trying to find ways to cope.

In the aftermath of the storm, unscrupulous home renovation contractors, handymen and others may begin to prey on exhausted and vulnerable homeowners by either stealing their money outright or performing little work of questionable quality and then disappearing, never to be heard from again.

The Monmouth County Superstorm Sandy Fraud Task Force was assembled under the Direction of the Prosecutor's Office with support of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and is composed of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, Monmouth County Department of Consumer Affairs, Division on Aging, Disabilities, and Veterans Services, Division of Weights and Measures, Department of Health, and the Monmouth County Parks System.

The mission of the Monmouth County Superstorm Sandy Fraud Task Force is to provide a consolidated and coordinated response in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy to victims of criminal and civil frauds and improper business practices in Monmouth County, dispensing appropriate investigative and prosecutorial assistance alongside civil/regulatory remedies.
