The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Bureau is an experienced and highly trained group of police officers that conduct extensive narcotic and firearm investigations in accordance with New Jersey and Federal Law. The Bureau is comprised of the Narcotics Strike Force and Firearms Investigation Unit, the Tactical Narcotics Team and the Bayshore Strike Force and is staffed by an assistant prosecutor, who also serves as the Strike Force director, detectives and support personnel.
The Narcotics Strike Force and Firearms Investigation Unit investigate and prosecute individuals who use and distribute controlled substances, as well as those responsible for gun violence and the illegal sale of firearms.
The Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) is a component of the Strike Force. TNT is a specially trained group of officers who can rapidly deploy to high narcotic trafficking areas and bring a variety of law enforcement resources to bear, dramatically reducing the incidence of drug distribution, and the related crime that it produces, in the process.
The Bayshore Task Force originally existed as a joint project of several north-eastern (Bayshore) Monmouth County police departments. In 2006, the Bayshore Strike Force became a component of the Narcotic Strike Force of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. The Strike Force is comprised of a combination of Prosecutor's Office detectives specially trained in the area of narcotics enforcement, and municipal officers from the Bayshore area. The Bayshore Strike Force investigates individuals who use and distribute controlled substances in Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Keyport, Matawan, Middletown and Union Beach.
The Narcotics Strike Force has proved itself to be beneficial to all municipalities in Monmouth County. Those engaged in the distribution and possession of controlled dangerous substances frequently are involved in the commission of other crimes, such as burglaries, robberies, thefts and fraud. Arresting these individuals has a positive impact on the crime rate in the towns where they reside.
Additionally, the Narcotics Strike Force, in cooperation with the Federal Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General, is engaged in an on-going quality of life enforcement operation in the immediate vicinity of federal housing units in Asbury Park and Neptune Township. Information is shared with the directors of the respective housing authorities in an effort to reduce the incidence of crime in and around these facilities and provide a safer environment for those who live there.
The Narcotics Strike Force works closely with local police departments throughout Monmouth County, the New Jersey State Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the United States Postal Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the United State's Attorney's Office.
